Carpathians & Transfăgărășan

The Carpathian Mountains form a 1,500km-long range in Central and Eastern Europe. The Southern Carpathians (also known as the Transylvanian Alps) are located in between the Prahova River in the east and the Timiș and Cerna Rivers in the west. To the south they are bounded by the Balkan mountain range in eastern Serbia. The Transfăgărășan or DN7C is the second-highest paved road in Romania. It was built as a strategic military route that stretches 90 km with twists and turns that run north to south across the tallest sections of the Southern Carpathians.
